‘We wisten het’: Harry Kane doet uitspraak over Celtic-fans na doelpunt voor Bayern München in Parkhead

Celtic head to Munich next week with a fighting chance of progressing to the last 16 of the Champions League.

But it’s going to be a tall order after Celtic were beaten 2-1 by Bayern Munich on Wednesday night after goals from Michael Olise and Harry Kane put the Scottish side on the back foot.

Daizen Maeda did find the back of the net late in the second half, it was enough to keep the tie alive, but perhaps it was too little too late.

Before a ball was kicked, Celtic knew they were up against it and facing one of the best teams in Europe, including one of the world’s best strikers.

So, when Kane is given all the room in the world to score at the start of the second half, you wonder what is the point at all because that was painful defending.

You can’t argue with how Celtic ended the game, it was exactly what the doctor ordered and even Kane was grateful for the full-time whistle.

Harry Kane praises Celtic fans after scoring at Parkhead for Bayern Munich

As Kane touched upon, it was a red-hot atmosphere at kick-off inside Celtic Park and ‘tough’ for his team, as he was fearing the worst when Nicolas Kuhn opened the scoring inside a minute, but then the goal was disallowed for offside.

Bayern were able to ride the ‘momentum’ the home team had generated, and then, on the stroke of half-time, Olise scored one of the goals of the round and Kane added to it minutes into the second half.

The England captain admitted to ‘struggling’ and ‘holding on at the end’, including the part the Celtic crowd played in it all, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (12/02/25 at 10:10 pm)

“Yes, it was tough,” said Kane about facing the Celtic crowd. “We knew to start the game that they were going to have a bit of momentum. Obviously, they scored within a minute, but thankfully, it got disallowed.

“But the crowd were up and we had to bide our time. We had to be patient. I thought we did that. We scored at a really good time, just before the half, just to settle the nerves a little bit. Then, again after half-time to score that quickly, it put us in control.

“The last 20 minutes, we struggled a little bit, they put the pressure on and the crowd got behind them. They got the goal and we were holding on at the end.

“Overall, we can be happy, it was a good win away from home and we go next week to the Allianz and, hopefully, we can get through.”

Will Celtic away fans be allowed inside the Allianz Arena?

Yes, Bayern are clear favourites here and they should progress, but there is life in this tie and Celtic need to look at the positives.

Rodgers needs a better start from his team and then it’s the bonus of the Celtic away fans travelling to Munich.

After a pyrotechnic was thrown onto the pitch at Villa Park, everyone feared the worst and thought UEFA would ban the Celtic away fans from entering the Allianz Arena.

But UEFA recently confirmed that Celtic have been hit with a mere fine and the Parkhead faithful will be heard loud and proud inside Bayern’s stadium.
