Michael Carrick makes ‘responsibility’ point as pressure on Middlesbrough boss grows
Michael Carrick understands that the responsibility is on him as Middlesbrough head coach to find
a solution to his side’s current slump, as pressure on him grows amid Boro’s poor form.
Boro lost a third consecutive match at Sheffield United on Wednesday evening and,
despite considerable backing in the last two transfer windows,
they now sit ninth in the Championship table after just two wins in ten.
He accepted after that league position is not good enough.
With only 15 games remaining in a season that represented Boro’s
best chance for some time at winning promotion back to the Premier League at the start of the campaign,
familiar issues that have not been solved all season threaten to derail their hopes.
There would be no hiding from the fact that not even finishing in a play-off spot this season would
represent failure given the resources – with many supporters, including those at Bramall Lane on Wednesday evening, starting to voice their displeasure.
“We have to find a way,” Carrick admitted after. “It’s up to me and the staff and players together.
It’s my responsibility. We have to find a way.
I thought as the second half went on we were alright but it’s that moment,
whether it’s concentration, focus, game understanding.
We have to try and make it a bit easier for ourselves but we’re making it harder.
