‘Good qualities’ – Stoke City player hailed by Mark Robins after Cardiff City FA Cup clash

Stoke City boss Mark Robins has said new boy Favour Fawunmi has ‘good qualities’ and has tipped him for a ‘bright future’ in the game.

Stoke City landed the winger last week from West Ham. SCFC then handed him his first-team debut over the weekend against Cardiff City.

The Potters drew 3-3 with their fellow Championship side at the Bet365 Stadium in the fourth round of the FA Cup with Lewis Koumas scoring twice, whilst Lewis Baker also got himself on the scoresheet. However, they lost on penalties.

Speaking afterwards, Robins hailed Fawunmi and said, as per a report by StokeOnTrentLive: “Sometimes a young player comes in and shows no fear and has a real go and he certainly did that. He showed he’s got really nice feet, a good touch, he’s got good qualities. He’s still learning the game, he’s only 18, but he’s got a bright future.

“We saw him on Tuesday in the game and he signed on Friday morning so we managed to get him registered and ready to go which was great because we needed it, we needed something like that to give us that spark, to try to take the game to an opponent rather than let them dictate to us.”

Stoke City winger Favour Fawunmi hailed

Stoke City have signed Fawunmi as one for the future.

In the interim period, he will provide competition and depth to their attacking ranks and will hope to get as many minutes as possible.

The 18-year-old rose up through the academy at West Ham and was a regular for the Premier League side at various different youth levels.

Fawunmi penned a short-term deal with the Hammers when his scholarship deal ended.

He was offered an extension by the London outfit earlier this winter but declined it.

That opened the door for Stoke City to lure him to the Football League and he will now be eyeing more game time under Robins.

What now for Stoke City?

The Potters will be disappointed to be out of the FA Cup.

They are back in action on Wednesday night with an away trip to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City.

Robins’ side won 2-1 against Hull City at the MKM Stadium in their last league outing after goals by Ali Al-Hamadi and Andy Moran.

Stoke City are sat in 18th place in the table and are four points above the drop zone.
