Kansas City sports reporter dies covering the Chiefs at the Super Bowl in New Orleans
A Kansas City sports reporter covering Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans for Spanish-speaking media died Wednesday, according to his employers, KGKC Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports.
Adan Manzano, 27, was on assignment covering his third Super Bowl for Telemundo and Tico Sports, a multimedia production company that broadcasts Chiefs games in Spanish, when he was found dead. Manzano’s death comes less than a year after the death of his wife, Ashleigh Boyd, who was a teacher for the Topeka Public Schools District.
Manzano’s cause of death is not yet publicly known, and both media companies said they are cooperating with law enforcement.
He and his late wife are survived by their toddler daughter.
Kenner, Louisiana, police are conducting the investigation into Manzano’s death.
The Jefferson Parish coroner’s office is conducting the autopsy.
In a statement, Telemundo KC general manager Steve Downing said Manzano was a “true professional and a rising star who exemplified excellence in his work.”
“We will deeply miss Adan and his passion for sports, and the contributions he made to the local community,” Downing said.
Manzano covered the Chiefs as a sideline reporter and was the play-by-play caller for the KC Current for Tico Sports.
Tico Sports president CiCi Rojas called Manzano an “enthusiastic and energetic team player who was well liked and respected.”
“Adan was a devoted father to his young daughter, a helpful colleague, and loyal friend,” Rojas said. “He will be greatly missed by our TICO Family and will live on in our hearts and memories.”
Manzano had been with Telemundo since April 2021, according to his LinkedIn page. He was a Mexico City native and later moved to Topeka, Kansas, according to KSNT-TV in Topeka.
