‘It’s tough, but I know I can do it’ – Leif Davis on life as a Premier League regular
Ipswich Town defender Leif Davis has acknowledged that regular Premier League football is ‘tough’, but believes that it will help him get to where he wants to in his career.
The 24-year-old has featured in all 24 Premier League games so far this campaign, playing 2,113 minutes in that time.
In fact, the only occasion where he didn’t complete the entire game was away at Liverpool, where he was withdrawn at half-time due to illness.
Playing week in, week out against top attackers is certainly hard work, and while Davis didn’t expect to have as much exposure as he has done this season, he’s adamant that it’s helping him improve.
“It’s good for me,” he explained. “That’s all I want to do, play, improve every week, play as many minutes as I can.
“I didn’t expect that I’d play this amount of minutes with Conor [Townsend] behind me because of the quality he has, how good a player he is.
“I think I’m improving every week, I want to keep pushing and learning from playing against the best players in the world, the best teams in the world.
“I’ll hopefully keep pushing on in my career.
“It’s tough, but I know I can do it. I’ve got through it however many times this season, so I know I can last the full 90 minutes.
“I’ve just got to keep pushing, keep getting fitter and try to keep going until the final whistle.”
Following four successive Premier League defeats, Town are in FA Cup fourth round action this weekend at Championship play-off hopefuls Coventry City.
Kieran McKenna rang the changes for a third round win against Bristol Rovers and could be tempted to rotate again.
Coventry, under the management of Frank Lampard, are three points adrift of the top six in the second-tier.
