“I feel a certain regret” – Bad feeling over player joining Brentford and hope he’ll return. Italian director Walter Sabatini
Brentford signed Michael Kayode on an initial loan deal from Fiorentina in the winter transfer window.
The defender has already made his debut for the Bees, coming on for the club against Tottenham Hotspur.
Brentford have an option to buy the youngster permanently in the summer and that will depend on his performances at the London side.
Veteran Italian director Walter Sabatini was asked about Kayode’s situation in an interview with Radio FirenzeViola and expressed his belief that the 20-year-old could return to Fiorentina in some years.
He said: “I am sorry about Kayode, however, I feel a certain regret every time strong guys leave. Maybe in two or three years he will come back and do well but he was one of those players that I was happy to see play.”
There is enough reason for Sabatini to have regrets about Kayode, considering how the defender had fallen short of game time in Serie A this season.
He played only five times in the league and this happened after he played 2000 minutes in all competitions in the 2023/24 season. Kayode impressed last season, but Fiorentina could never really hand him enough game time.
That is why there is regret in Italy about his departure. But their loss is Brentford’s gain and Thomas Frank’s side can make the most of things.
