Xabi Alonso next Real Madrid manager gets firm answer as Bayer Leverkusen chief speaks out
Despite connections to Real Madrid, Simon Rolfes, managing director of Bayer Leverkusen, is
certain that Xabi Alonso will remain in charge for the upcoming campaign.
Alonso has been tipped for a spectacular comeback to the Bernabeu, but Carlo Ancelotti’s long-term future is unknown. Although the World Cup winner’s contract with Die Werkself expires in 2026,
there have been rumours that the Spaniard would take over in Spain’s capital.
Despite the fact that star playmaker Florian Wirtz has also been linked to a summer departure,
Bayer manager Rolfes is certain the two will stay with the Bundesliga winners. When Sky Germany
asked Rolfes if he was certain the two would still be playing next season, he firmly said, “Yes.”
Rolfes stated: “Both of them are under contract here, and they’re feeling very comfortable.” Wirtz is committed for a another two and a half years. Florian has made amazing progress. Long-term retention would be ideal, but no contract has been signed as of yet. We would have made the announcement sooner if there had been one.
When he guided Bayer to an unbeaten title-winning season, Alonso, who has established an outstanding reputation since the start of his management career, ended Bayern Munich’s hegemony in Germany. “Xabi knows that he has a team around him that shares his ambition,” Rolfes continued. And he believes that he is the key component of our endeavours.”
