Sheffield Wednesday failed in their attempts to acquire a center-forward and a centre-back during

the winter transfer window, while Leeds United was the only league team in Yorkshire to make no acquisitions.

However, the Blades were able to surpass their goal of five additions this window with the loan of Rob Holding and the artificial intelligence-driven additions of wingers Christian Nwachukwu and Jefferson Caceres, and Hull City managed to make a big acquisition by bringing former Sheffield United centre-back John Egan back to the county.

On the night they lost 3-2 to local rivals Sunderland, Middlesbrough had a busy deadline day as well. They brought in Kelechi Iheanacho and Samuel Iling-Junior, and Ryan Giles, another winter

acquisition, scored a late own goal to seal the victory.

After an injury-plagued 2023–24 season, Egan, a mainstay of the Blades’ ascent through the divisions during Chris Wilder’s first stint as manager, was let go. However, a transfer to Burnley did not work

out, therefore he now has an 18-month contract with the Tigers that includes a one-year option.

He was the eighth senior the club signed during the window.
