‘I have played in the Championship’ – Iheanacho eager to make a quick impact at Middlesbrough
Following his deadline-day loan move from Spanish team Sevilla, Kelechi Iheanacho has made it
clear that he is prepared to contribute right away at Middlesbrough.
Thanks to his performances in the Manchester City and Leicester games, the Nigerian international
is well-known in English football and is only four games away from reaching the 300-game mark for English teams.
Iheanacho was a member of the Leicester City team that won the Championship in the 2023–2024 season, so he has some Championship experience.
He made 23 appearances in the second division of English football last season, scoring five goals.
Iheanacho feels he is in the perfect frame of mind to make his debut for Middlesbrough, despite a difficult start at parent club Sevilla.
The Taye Academy product has been brought in to replace Emmanuel Latte Lath, who signed a
record-breaking contract to join Atlanta United, an MLS team.
“It was a good experience playing in the Championship with Leicester City and winning,” Iheanacho
told the Middlesbrough reporters. Clearly, it’s a wonderful experience. I also played against Middlesbrough, but I was unable to score.
“I think it’s a great place to start since I’ve played in the Championship and I know how it works.
“I’m eager to get started because I feel prepared and ready to go.
