With an average of 27.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists this season, Boston Celtics player Jayson Tatum is

among the NBA’s leading MVP contenders.

During a recent interview with Malika Andrews of ESPN, Tatum was asked to choose the best player in the NBA. He

picked himself out of the blue, showing great respect for his teammates, which included Giannis Antetokounmpo,

Nikola Jokic, and Joel Embiid.

“Me,” replied Tatum. “I have great regard for many of the guys in the league.” Definitely Giannis [Antetokounmpo].

Obviously, [Nikola] Jokic just prevailed. Joel Embiid. Men who were named MVPs. That list is endless. The league is

doing fantastically. I genuinely think that every time I go the court at night, I’m the best player.

It’s interesting to note that Tatum’s viewpoint has changed from when he previously spoke with Andrews, naming

Antetokounmpo the best player in the game. This change highlights his increasing self-assurance.

With a four-game lead in the NBA standings midway through the season, the powerful Celtics team is

unquestionably led by Tatum’s contributions.

Leading the best team in the league strengthens his case in the argument for being the best player in the world, even

though he hasn’t been the focus of MVP talks this season.

Tatum’s final validation of his top position would come from leading the Celtics to their 18th championship and

raising another banner at the TD Garden.
