Just In: Aston Villa’s £12.5 million defender departure deal with Champions League rivals is finalized.
With a big loan exit, Aston Villa has completed their first deadline day transfer transaction.
In order to join RB Leipzig on a six-month loan with a summer purchase option,
Kosta Nedeljkovic departed Aston Villa.
After spending the remainder of the previous season on loan at his old team, Red Star Belgrade,
the right-back only returned to the senior squad in the summer after signing with Villa in January.
Since the ball is now in Leipzig’s court, Villa has chosen to let Nedeljkovic go, possibly permanently,
despite his obvious promise. Villa has officially announced Nedeljkovic’s departure and wishes the
19-year-old luck as he adjusts to life in Germany for the remainder of the season.
Leipzig has the option to buy the defender in the summer for €15 million (£12.5 million),
according to Fabrizio Romano. It is always disheartening to watch young talent leave,
but it is a significant enough amount for Villa to have quadrupled their money in just a year.
