Leicester City transfer state of play on deadline day with Odsonne Edouard deal

Due to PSR concerns, Leicester City’s operations may be restricted on the day of the deadline.
Leicester City had an open mind going into last summer’s deadline day, hoping to seize the

opportunity if a deal came up in the closing few hours of the window. They still hold that position

now. However, they will exercise greater caution this time.

First off, the budget has less leeway due to the summer business and the limitations imposed by

the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Second, they don’t want to repeat the hiring of Odsonne Edouard on the last day, who has arrived and hardly played.

Every transfer is a risk, but City must be as certain as possible that the man they add will enhance the starting lineup. Signing a guy who won’t contribute isn’t worth further damaging their PSR estimations. It is preferable to leave Ruud van Nistelrooy with his current team in that situation.

Edouard appears to be staying as well. His time at City will only end if Crystal Palace pays to terminate his loan if they are unable to sell him. Only two players on loan from English top-flight teams are allowed at any given time, therefore given the associated costs, they will only do so if they have a Premier League loan lined up. A foreign loan is more likely in the situation.
