FINAL HOUR DEAL: Sheffield Wednesday Make Late Splash with Ricky-Jade Jones and More – details
Sheffield Wednesday has had a disappointing January transfer window, but they will be aiming to
close deals before the deadline on Monday.
Following a hectic summer transfer window that saw the introduction of eleven new players,
Wednesday barely averted relegation from the Championship the previous season. This season,
they have improved significantly under manager Danny Rohl.
The Owls have been unexpected play-off contenders in recent months, but despite the fact that everything has been going well on the pitch, Rohl and owner Dejphon Chansiri’s communication breakdown has caused issues at Hillsborough.
Two weeks ago, Chansiri disclosed at a heated fan forum that he hadn’t spoken to Rohl since
December and that he hadn’t discussed any possible January transfer targets with the management.
Wednesday fans are relieved that Rohl and Chansiri have settled their disagreement and are now
trying to add players, although they do not have much time to do so with the transfer market still
open.
We looked at some of the last-minute deals the Owls should consider as the clock ticks down to
Monday night’s 11pm deadline.
Ricky-Jade Jones
Adding a new striker before the window closes is probably going to be a top priority for Wednesday
due to the troubles of players like Ike Ugbo and Jamal Lowe this season. Ricky-Jade Jones of Peterborough United would be a viable option to strengthen their forward line.
Similar to Darling, Jones’ contract with his present team expires in the summer. Although Posh will
be extremely reluctant to lose one of their best players during a League One relegation battle, owner Darragh MacAnthony will not want to pass on the chance to pay a potentially sizable transfer fee.
