JUST IN: Rangers Rabbi Matondo finally agrees to sign a new contract
Rabbi Matondo is set for an Ibrox exit after an unnamed European club agreed a loan deal with Rangers, sources have told Football Insider.
The 24-year-old is also the subject of advanced interest from Serie A clubs and Championship duo Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday.
Rangers have made Matondo available for transfer in the mid-season window, which slams shut on 3 February.
He is expected to leave Ibrox on an initial loan with a buy option in the region of £2million.
The Wales international has featured sparingly for Philippe Clement’s side this term, with a hamstring injury limiting his involvement.
He has made eight appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign, notching two goals and three assists.
All but one of those goal involvements came in the 6-0 rout of Ross County back in August – prior to his injury trouble.
Matondo has struggled for game time since the return of Ianis Hagi to the fold at Ibrox, with the Romania international patching up relations with Clement to become a key man for the Glasgow giants.
Rangers winger Matondo set for Euro loan
The Liverpool-born star joined Rangers from Schalke in 2022 and signed a four-year contract.
He has made 67 appearances with the Gers, notching eight goals and 12 assists.
Matondo has primarily played as a left winger for Rangers but can also play on the right wing.
Clement’s side, who have already allowed Robbie Fraser to depart for Kilmarnock on loan this month, are 16 points adrift of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race.
