Because they gave Michael Beale the freedom to drastically alter the playing roster during the transfer window, Glasgow Rangers made the decision to support him last summer.

Many new players, including Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, Danilo, Jose Cifuentes, Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling, Jack Butland, Leon Balogun, and Abdallah Sima, were added by the English head coach.
As they both left the Scottish powerhouses in January, Lammers and Cifuentes, two of those players, have already been permitted to leave on loan. Danilo, Sima, and Dowell are currently sidelined due to injuries.
Together with his ten goals in 23 Scottish Premiership appearances, the former Cremonese marksman has missed an astounding twenty “big chances,” which has also been a source of frustration for Dessers at times.

You can criticize the club for their summertime acquisitions and point to the players Beale actually signed, but you can also take a look at the players they allegedly passed on signing.

Interest from Rangers in the current Celtic star

The Light Blues were reportedly in negotiations with Greek team Aris FC in June of last year regarding a potential signing of winger Luis Palma.

At the time, ‘more than ten’ clubs expressed interest in acquiring the talented Honduran international in order to bolster their own rosters.

But because they were unwilling to pay the £4.5 million that the Greek team was asking for his signature, the Light Blues were unable to negotiate a contract for his services.
According to reports, there was a “huge distance” in the negotiations between the two clubs. This could indicate that the Gers either didn’t think Palma was worth the quoted price or didn’t have the money to spend £4.5 million on the forward.

According to Sky Sports, he eventually completed a transfer to Celtic in August 2023 for a fee of £3.5 million after it appeared that his price had dropped over the following few months.

It’s unclear, though, if the Ibrox behemoths would have been willing to part with up to £3.5m, which represents a £1 million reduction in the original valuation.

At the end of that month, the dynamic attacker disclosed that, although his agent had mentioned Rangers’ interest—a sign that the reports from earlier in the summer had some validity—he was only considering Celtic after learning of their interest in signing him.

Palma has proven to be a huge mistake for the club after their failed attempt to sign him; he is now leading the Scottish Premiership in assists this season, surpassing Gers captain James Tavernier.

The genius of Luis Palma for Celtic

The 24-year-old wizard has been extremely successful in Scotland and has proven to be one of Brendan Rodgers’ best performers in Glasgow thus far in the 2023–24 season.
He had made a strong start to the season with Aris before coming to Parkhead. The young talent arrived at the Greek team in excellent form, having contributed two goals and three assists in five appearances across all competitions.

Palma has made 21 appearances for the Hoops in the Premiership this season, starting 17 of them. He has helped his team out with nine assists and an impressive five goals.

The right-footed wizard, who Chris Sutton called “tremendous” earlier this season, has averaged a goal or an assist for the Bhoys in the division every 1.21 starts.
With 12 ‘big chances’ created and 3.0 key passes per game, the most of any player in the Celtic squad, he has been a consistent creative threat for his team on the left flank.

In one game, a Boxing Day match against Dundee in December, Palma recorded an incredible 11 key passes. However, despite his exceptional creativity, he was only given one assist.

No player in the Premiership this season has managed as many assists as the 24-year-old ace (nine), as of the time of writing (21/02/2024), indicating that he has been the best creator in the league since moving to Parkhead.
