Despite earning almost £9 million in bonuses in this season’s Europa League, Philippe Clement declined to be

involved in Rangers’ transfer transaction.

Rangers are rejoicing after finishing in the top eight of the Europa League, which ensures the team’s safe passage to the Round of 16.

Rangers will also be seeded for the match, meaning the Gers will avoid a potentially difficult playoff

matchup and the club will play the second leg at Ibrox.

In spite of the historic accomplishment—Rangers played four of the top seven in eight games during

the redesigned league phase—Philip Clement would not discuss moves.

Europa League impact on Rangers transfers

Rangers receives an extra £2 million in incentives as a result of their qualification for the Europa League Round of 16.

Rangers receive £500,000 for placing in the top eight, while £1.5 million is awarded for Round of 16 participation.

The Ibrox club will receive about £1.8 million in prize money for the Gers’ eighth-place finish.

Rangers have won more than £9 million in prize money alone from the Europa League this season,

and Philippe Clement was asked if he thought the team might use part of that money.

With incoming CEO Patrick Stewart fronting questions on the January transfer window earlier in the month,

Clement insists those are questions for the Rangers higher-ups.

Clement told reporters at full-time, “You don’t have to ask me this question.” That isn’t about me, then.

Before the transfer market a few weeks ago, we discussed that. Working with the players present is my responsibility.

“So, we’ll see what the club can do over the next few days.”

Rangers coy on January transfer dealings

Rafael Fernandes, a Portuguese defender on loan from Ligue 1 club Lille, is the lone addition Rangers have

made thus far during the January transfer window.

Rather, the window has been dominated by departures, with Rabbi Matondo joining Hannover 96,

Kieran Dowell joining Birmingham City, and Alex Lowry joining Wycombe Wanderers.

Young players like Cole McKinnon (Ayr United) and Robbie Fraser (Livingston) have also gone on loan from the team.

Rangers have a few days remaining to finish any January-related tasks after these actions freed

up money from the club’s tight wage bill.

Rangers are still interested in signing Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron to a pre-contract agreement,

but they are hesitant to say who else they might target in January.

Before the market ends at 11 p.m. on Monday, February 3rd, players like Welsh midfielder Tom Lawrence may also depart Ibrox.
