FINISHED DEAL: Kieran Tierney’s Magnificent Celtic Comeback—the major announcement
For the first time, Brendan Rodgers has acknowledged that Celtic and Arsenal have reached an agreement to re-sign Kieran Tierney.
Celtic hopes to get Tierney back to Glasgow before the end of this transfer window,
since they have a free transfer in place for the summer.
Tierney, a left-back who rose through the Scottish champions’ development systems,
was sold by Celtic to Arsenal in 2019 for a reported £25 million. After it became apparent that Arsenal would not exercise their option to extend Tierney’s contract at the end of current season, rumors that he might rejoin Celtic never really went away.
Up until the night before the Champions League game against Aston Villa, Rodgers had been hesitant to deal with the Tierney problem. There, he stated that Tierney will “ideally” relocate north in the days ahead. “He is still playing for Arsenal right now,” Rodgers stated. We’ve decided that it will undoubtedly happen in the summer. It would be fantastic if we could finish it before then.
When asked if Tierney will likely be traded in January, perhaps on loan, Rodgers responded, “I don’t know.” We’ve planned it for the summer, and I don’t want to talk about it too much because, with all due respect, he isn’t currently a Celtic player. However, if we succeeded, naturally we
