Leicester Moyes regret: Van Nistelrooy not manager material – Scholes
According to Paul Scholes, Leicester City may wish they had chosen David Moyes as their manager earlier in the season.
After Steve Cooper was fired, Football Insider revealed in November that Moyes was amenable to
taking over at King Power Stadium.
The Scot has now rejoined his old team, Everton, who, like the Foxes, are currently fighting to stay
in the Premier League, but ultimately, no appointment was made.
In the meantime, Ruud van Nistelrooy was named manager of Leicester, his first permanent
position in England.
Prior to this season, the Dutchman led PSV for two years in his native country. He also served as caretaker manager of Manchester United for four games.
The 48-year-old has had a difficult start to life with Leicester. He was already under fire after seven straight league losses before Sunday’s (January 26) victory over Tottenham.
Speaking on The Overlap, Scholes, a former Red Devils teammate, has now questioned whether,
in comparison to Moyes, that is enough experience for him to maintain the team in the Premier
League.
Scholes responded, “No probably not,” when asked if he had ever considered Van Nistelrooy as management material when in the Man United dressing room. It seems to me that Leicester took a
bit of a chance with him.
David Moyes a more solid option for Leicester
Had Moyes been hired, there would have been greater assurance that Leicester would have avoided relegation because he has demonstrated in the past that he can succeed in such situations. Therefore,
if at the end of the season he is able to keep Everton up while Van Nistelrooy and his team go down, there will undoubtedly be doubts about the path the Foxes took in their managerial search. In other news, Leicester is planning a spectacular move for one of their promotion stars.
