The Kansas City Chiefs, the Super Bowl champions, had one obvious shortcoming this season that nearly cost them a chance at greatness. Daniel Jeremiah’s newest NFL.com mock draft shows them addressing that vulnerability with the No. 32 overall choice,

wide receiver Troy Franklin from Oregon.

The Chiefs’ wide receivers had a miserable 2023 season, putting all of the emphasis on quarterback Patrick Mahomes,

tight end Travis Kelce, and the running game to carry the offense.

The Chiefs had the most drops among receivers this season, and it is the one position where they clearly slipped behind the rest of the NFL.

It is a position they must address this offseason, either through the draft or free agency.

It just so happens that this could be the ideal year to choose a wide receiver because the class is one of the deepest the position has seen in years.

Jeremiah’s most recent mock draft includes six wide receivers in the first round, three of whom are ranked in the top ten.The one bright spot for the Chiefs at wide receiver in 2023 was the remarkable development of youngster Rashee Rice,

who caught 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season. He was by far the most productive wide receiver on the squad, and the only one who caught more than 27 passes.

He is a solid foundation for that position, and adding a deep threat like Franklin would provide an excellent complement and might help the Chiefs attack return to an elite level.

This may be terrible news for the rest of the AFC.

The Chiefs’ defense and quarterback were good enough to win the Super Bowl despite one of the league’s poorest wide out groupings.

What could they be able to accomplish if they address that issue this offseason? The NFL’s first three-peat is not out of the question.
