JUST IN: In a new signing interview, Clarke says, “I’m thrilled to be back at Derby County.”
season from Middlesbrough, a team in the Sky Bet Championship.
After making 81 appearances during consecutive loan stints from Brighton & Hove Albion in the
2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons, the Rams’ second January transfer window signing is making a comeback to the team.
The 28-year-old will provide his abundance of Championship experience to Paul Warne’s
team after spending a year with West Bromwich Albion and two and a half seasons with Middlesbrough.
After rejoining the Rams, Clarke, the 2019–20 Jack Stamps Player of the Season, spoke with RamsTV.
It’s a great feeling. When I was informed that I might be able to return, I was ecstatic. I guess that demonstrates how much I’ve loved my time here, and from the club’s perspective, you must have done something great because I wouldn’t keep coming back!
I wanted to get some playing time at Middlesbrough because I was with the team but wasn’t getting as many minutes as I would have liked. Derby appeared. Going back and forth can take a while, and sometimes it seems like forever, but it’s happened, and I’m glad to be here.
More than anything, I guess, the task. The difficulty of the games and
improving as a player is what makes it a fantastic environment to play football,
and I like being around the training field. The people there are very friendly.
I get the feeling that Derby County is in a better situation now than it was when I last left,
even though the years following my departure weren’t the best.
I’m hoping I can contribute to the team and the club.
