DONE DEAL: Derby re-sign centre-back from Middlesbrough
The 28-year-old signs a permanent contract with Pride Park that will last until the end of the current campaign, having previously played there on loan twice.
He joins a Rams team that will be without their staple centre-back Curtis Nelson for the remainder of
the season due to injury, and the future of Eiran Cashin at the core of their defence is also uncertain because the 23-year-old is being linked to Brighton of the Premier League.
Between 2019 and 2021, Clarke played for Brighton before spending two seasons on loan at Derby, where he made 81 appearances.
When Derby finished 10th in the Championship in 2019–20, he was named Derby’s Jack Stamps
Player of the Season.
He helped the Rams almost escape relegation the next season, and he rejoins them in a similar
struggle for survival.
Clarke told Derby’s website, “I was ecstatic as soon as I heard there was a chance to return.”
“It’s the third time and it shows how much I’ve enjoyed being here, and from the club’s point of
view I’ve done something right or they wouldn’t keep bringing me back.”
