Derby County make a €5.5 million bid to capture an ex-Rangers player amid concerns over Corey Blackett-Taylor.
Derby County has suffered from an injury problem in recent months,
leaving Paul Warne with some of his best and most essential players out of action.
The Rams’ 2-0 loss to Watford FC just over a week ago ended Curtis Nelson’s season prematurely,
and a few days later, Kane Wilson and Dajaune Brown were benched against Sunderland.
The East Midlands team’s situation was made worse by the fact that both Callum Elder and Corey Blackett-Taylor were defeated by Cardiff City on Saturday.
The latter is a major source of concern due to previous fitness concerns.
The winger has been urged by fans to start more frequently,
but this fresh possible setback will affect both Derby and him.
But before the last stretch, Warne might look to the free agency market to bolster his attacking unit.
In their struggle for survival, Ryan Kent would support Derby.
Although survival was always the goal this season, the Rams have had a particularly rough month and need reinforcements to assist them fight to stay in the Championship after being promoted to the division in April 2024.
Warne has had a difficult time, as his team has now dropped into the relegation zone for the first time this season after six straight losses in the second division.
Even with the addition of Lars-Jorgen Salvesen,
Derby is now experiencing its worst run of play since the 2020–21 campaign,
and it is obvious that more is required up front.
Since making his debut against Sunderland last Tuesday, the Norwegian has already shown that he is a threat,
and he scored in his first start for the team over the weekend.
However, he will require more playing time, and if Blackett-Taylor’s injury turns out to be permanent,
Warne will need to add another winger.
With the former Rangers player still a free agent,
Ryan Kent would be the ideal choice.
The 28-year-old has been without a club since leaving Fenerbahçe in October by mutual agreement,
but Derby is in a terrible situation and should go to Kent if they can’t sign an attacker before the deadline of February 3.
Warne will find Kent’s inventiveness appealing.
Both Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Kayden Jackson have had difficulty regularly contributing goals and assists to the Rams this season, but the former Liverpool player takes great delight in this.
He consistently selected partners who could score goals, and his speed and technical skill made him a continuous threat.
His record at Rangers was outstanding.
Derby has occasionally found it difficult to break through the opposition’s defense by sprinting at them quickly this season;
if a deal is reached to bring him to Pride Park, Kent will be able to supply that in spades.
There is an urgent need for reinforcements,
and even if he might take a week or two to recover from his absence,
he will contribute to the Rams and could assist revitalize Warne’s team’s offensive strategy,
particularly if Blackett-Taylor is sidelined.
