Derby County boss Paul Warne has confirmed a preference to sign a midfielder with Championship experience over targets from abroad.
Derby County are on the lookout for more new signings this month after a quiet window to date. DCFC have until February 3rd to get new signings through the door.

Thus far, Norwegian striker Lars-Jorgen Salvesen is the only player to come through the Door at Pride Park. James Collins and Sonny Bradley (loan) have departed, while Wolves recalled Tawanda Chirewa.

The Rams’ growing concerns over relegation have seen calls for new signings grow louder and louder, and one man linked with a move to the club has been Danish midfielder Oscar Fraulo.

However, with three main targets on the radar, it seems Derby County boss Paul Warne has a preference.

Speaking to Derbyshire Live, Warne confirmed there are foreign targets but his preference is to sign players who have Championship experience. Specifically, he says a midfield who has played at the level might be ‘a better fit’ for DCFC than overseas targets.

“We do have foreign targets, whether we press on any of them I don’t know,” the Derby County boss said.

“There is a midfielder who has currently played at the level and played in the Championship that I think is a better fit, but as always, there’s a lot of moving parts.

“We are looking at players abroad but the English Championship with three games a week at times has massive physical needs, so if we can get a British player for this position, I think that’s what we’d do.”

Fraulo overlooked?

Reports have indicated that Derby County are pretty far along in their pursuit who, for the sake of clarity, has not played in the Championship before.

However, it seems Warne has a clear preference to move for a player who has experience at the level. Danish ace Fraulo has played at a good level in both Germany and Holland, also finding opportunities with FC Midtjylland before his move to Borussia Monchengladbach.

But, Warne looks intent on adding players with Championship pedigree, and that goes for his midfield ranks too. Few will complain about that, but Fraulo certainly seems a promising player and someone who could be an asset for both the present and future.

While transfer business rumbles on at Pride Park, Derby County are gearing up for a vital game this weekend.

DCFC make the long journey to South Wales to face fellow relegation candidates Cardiff City this weekend. The Bluebirds have form on their side and will be favourites to win against a struggling away side.

Defeat will only increase pressure on the shoulders of manager Warne, who retains the club’s backing at this moment in time.
