This postponed Leicester vs. Tottenham Premier League match is because
The Premier League declared on Thursday that COVID-19 has forced a postponement of
Leicester City’s home match against Tottenham.
Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Leicester, stated on Wednesday that the team’s request to postpone the match
because of an increase in coronavirus cases in their squad had been turned down. However, on Thursday,
additional players and staff tested positive, leaving the league with no other option.
The game, which was supposed to start at 19:30 GMT, is the fourth Premier League game to be postponed in the last week.
To aid in the outbreak’s containment, Leicester’s training facility has been closed for 48 hours.
According to a Premier League statement, “Due to an ongoing outbreak within the squad,
which has resulted in more players and staff testing positive for Covid-19 today, Leicester applied [on Thursday] for the fixture to be called off in light of the new information.”
“As a result, the club does not have enough players available to complete the game.”
Tottenham also requested that the match be rescheduled so that they could play Rennes in the Europa Conference League,
which was canceled due to a Covid outbreak last week.
According to a statement from Leicester, “First team operations at Seagrave will now be closed for 48 hours,
acting as a circuit breaker to help reduce the risk of positive tests among first team personnel.”
