Leeds United are on the verge of signing a former Premier League striker, and it could prove to be a great addition.

Leeds United fans have been eagerly awaiting their club’s first signing of 2025, and after 24 days of the winter transfer window, the wait may finally be over.

So far, Leeds’ January window has been quiet, with only departures as Joel Gelhardt and Charlie Crew secured loan moves. While numerous players have been linked with the club, none have come close to signing. Daniel Farke and his staff seem content with their squad, though strengthening the striker and center-back positions remains a priority.

Several strikers have been rumored as potential targets, including Mergim Berisha and Willem Geubbels. More recently, former Manchester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho has also been linked. Since moving to Sevilla from Leicester City on a free transfer last summer, Iheanacho has struggled to find form. His potential arrival at Leeds coincides with reports that Sevilla are set to sign his fellow Nigerian, Jerome Akor, from Montpellier.

Iheanacho brings a wealth of experience, having scored 61 goals and provided 34 assists in 232 appearances for Leicester City. Before that, he netted 21 goals in 64 games for Manchester City, proving his ability at the highest level.

Farke’s past comments on Joel Piroe suggest Iheanacho could play a key role at Leeds. The manager previously pointed out Piroe’s lack of pace, stating, “We won’t make him a lightning-quick or incredibly mobile player.” In contrast, Iheanacho offers more speed and agility, making him a strong alternative.

If Leeds kick off their transfer window with Iheanacho’s signing, it would be an exciting addition. However, they still need reinforcements, particularly in defense.
