The forward has been linked to a number of Championship teams, including Sheffield Wednesday.

Louie Barry, a target for Sheffield Wednesday, is unlikely to move north of the line since Celtic is reportedly unable to match Aston Villa’s asking price.

Earlier this month, Celtic became the latest team to show interest in signing Barry, joining a

number of Championship teams. The Star initially revealed in November that Hillsborough

recruitment chiefs were monitoring the 21-year-old’s stellar loan stint at Stockport County, and Wednesday is one of those second-tier admirers.

Celtic, the dominant force in the Scottish Premiership, had the financial means to make what they believed to be a good long-term offer in addition to being able to provide top-tier football. Last week,

the Daily Mail revealed that Parkhead was the source of two bids, the latter of which was valued at a

total of £10 million.

Although a buy-back clause gave Aston Villa more assurances, the initial sum in that proposal was believed to be only £5 million, and they are said to have rejected that bid. Although a permanent departure is extremely unlikely, French team RC Lens is rumoured to have made a similar offer,

this time paying £6 million up front.

Earlier this month, Villa welcomed Barry back from his loan at Stockport, and they are carefully considering their options while he practices with the first squad. Before deciding on the former Barcelona academy prospect’s immediate future, manager Unai Emery is eager to see him in person.
