Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany blames entire team for Feyenoord’s game winning goal – details
For the third time this season, Bayern Munich conceded three goals in a match. This also marked the second three-goal loss on the road during this Champions League campaign. In today’s loss, all of Feyenoord’s goals occurred on well-timed counterattacks that caught Bayern’s high line on their heels.
In the 21st minute, Kim Min-jae misjudged a lofty pass from Gijs Smal to Santiago Giménez. Kim’s poorly timed leap took him out of the play and Giménez buried his 1v1 with Manuel Neuer.
“I’ve now been in Germany for six months and know the nature of these questions,” said Kompany (via @iMiaSanMia). “When we concede, I get asked about someone’s responsibility. It’s not about one individual, defending starts from the attackers before the ball even gets to the backline. It’s the responsibility of the entire team.”
Technically, there were opportunities for other players to end the play. Michael Olise could have closed down Smal’s pass a little quicker. Alphonso Davies could have taken a better angle on Giménez’s run. But Kim’s gaffe was the backbreaker.
Although Kim has been battling a nagging injury, it was telling that Kim was the sub in the 62nd minute rather than Dayot Upamecano. It will be interesting to see if Eric Dier is back in the starting lineup for the Freiburg match this weekend.
