“That fight was serious!” Conor Benn discusses Mario Barrios’ possibilities following confirmation from Chris Eubank Jr.

If Conor Benn’s planned fight with Chris Eubank Jr. had not gone through, he has stated that talks about a fight with Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight belt were “serious”.

With a lot of animosity between the two men, the Briton will fulfill the promise of a 2022 fight that was abruptly canceled by facing his domestic opponent in London in April.

The bout, which is scheduled to take place at middleweight with Benn moving up two classes, has been so uncertain that the fighter has even thought about other options.

Speaking on DAZN’s Ariel x Ade: The Boxing Show, Benn stated that a fight with Barrios for his world title would have been a dream fight to make instead.

“After what I’ve been through for the past two-and-a-half years, for me to come back and win the WBC world title where I had my debut, that’s where dreams are made of,” he stated.

“I know everyone wants this fight [with Eubank], and I felt like I really wanted to give the supporters the Eubank fight. But Barrios was serious, it was a serious fight that I wanted for sure.” “What a story [it would have been] for me to come back from a fight that lasted two and a half years, then fight for the WBC world title and win it.” “Because I honestly believe I would have stopped Barrios.”
