Transfer Latest: Aston villa Emi Buendia finally set to leave club to reunite with Daniel Farke at Elland Road.
Emi Buendia is a name very well-known to Daniel Farke at Leeds United. They worked together at Norwich City in the past, and now there’s persistent talks of them reuniting at Elland Road.
Leeds United have been linked with Emi Buendia for some time now. Last summer the Whites wanted to sign the Aston Villa man, who’s so far featured just 11 times in the Premier League this season.
Earlier in January, it was revealed that Leeds United remain interested in Buendia and that Villa would be open to selling him. Though it’s been suggested that an initial loan deal would be more probably for the Whites.
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has weighed in on Buendia’s situation too, recently suggesting that Buendia is free to leave Villa Park during this January transfer window, should he want to go out and play more minutes.
Daniel Farke quizzed on Emi Buendia transfer after win vs Sheffield Wednesday
On Sunday afternoon, Leeds United beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 in the Championship. Goals came from Manor Solomon, Largie Ramazani, and Ao Tanaka as the Whites moved back into 1st place of the Championship table.
After the game though, one of the questions put to Farke was with regards to Buendia. The Leeds boss was asked to comment on the latest regarding a move for former Norwich City star Buendia.
Farke told Leeds Live: “I don’t speak about any other player under contract at another club. Obviously I’ve worked with him for many years, I really rate him. I don’t comment on players on other clubs.”
What Daniel Farke’s Emi Buendia transfer admission could really mean
With regards to transfers and other clubs’ players, it’s the norm for managers to not make any comments beyond what Farke has done in the above comments on Buendia.
But it’s also quite commonplace for managers to either play down transfer links, or suggest that the club isn’t in the market at all.
The fact that Farke has quite obviously deflected the topic, whilst still stating that he thinks Buendia is a top player, could be something of a plea or a reminder to Buendia that Elland Road would happily take him on board for the second half of the campaign.
It could cost Leeds a fair whack if they had to cover Buendia’s wages. But it could be a signing that proves the difference in this season’s title race.
