UEFA has announced the match officials for Celtic’s Champions League must-win encounter against Young Boys on Wednesday night at Celtic Park.

Following Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock at Celtic Park, the Hoops will attempt to earn a spot in the Champions League knockout rounds with a win on Wednesday. A win would put Celtic on 12 points, almost securing a spot in the next round, depending on what happens in Europe on Tuesday and Wednesday, with Rohit Saggi in command.

The referee is Rohit Saggi, and the assistant referees are Morten Jensen (AR1) and Anders Olav Dale (AR2).

Fourth Official: Kristoffer Hagenes.
VAR: Marco Di Bello.
Saggi also refereed Rangers’ 1-1 Europa League tie against Aris Limassol at Ibrox in 2023 (AVAR: Benjamin Brand). Where he issued six yellow cards to Limassol players and one to Sam Lammers.

The Norwegian was also the fourth official at Celtic Park in 2019, when Celtic defeated Rennes 3-1, with Lewis Morgan, Ryan Christie, and Mikey Johnston scoring.

Wednesday night will be his first time refereeing a Celtic game and only his third Champions League encounter overall.

His two previous Champions League games this season were Sturm Graz’s 1-0 home win over Girona on November 27th, in which he issued a yellow card to each team, and Bologna’s 0-0 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk in Bologna, in which he issued two yellow cards to Bologna and four to Shakhtar.

Saggi handed the Ukrainian champions a penalty just one minute into the contest.

Celtic will undoubtedly have a big night as they attempt to make history by progressing to the next round of the Champions League. It will also be important for Saggi, who will not want to be the primary talking point of the game in only his third encounter as a referee in the Champions League.
