With Burnley’s draw with Sunderland on Friday night and fellow title contender Leeds United off

until Sunday lunchtime, the Blades knew going into their match against the Canaries that they would

top the Championship table if they could secure their first home victory since a 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle in mid-December.

Knowing that a win of their own would increase their prospects of earning a play-off position for the second straight season, Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team was hoping to upset one of the division’s pace setters.

High-flying Blades go top of Championship

On a chilly South Yorkshire afternoon, the first few games at Bramall Lane were largely uneventful as both teams tried to get into the swing of things.

However, the Blades created the game’s first significant opportunity at the quarter-hour mark when

Tom Davies set up Rhian Brewster. However, the former Liverpool player’s attempt was successfully stopped, and United was given a corner.
