BREAKING NEWS: Cowboys Interview Gets Kellen Moore’s One-Word Response – Details
FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys are in need of a head coach after parting ways with
Mike McCarthy after five seasons. And on Friday, they are involved in a virtual and official
interview with an old friend in Kellen Moore.
Will their former offensive coordinator currently with the
Philadelphia Eagles make the grade? Kellen Moore spent eight seasons in Dallas as both a backup quarterback,
quarterback coach, and play-caller. He has plenty of connections in the room and is considered
a top target for the team’s head coach opening.
Earlier this week, a Cowboys source confirmed to us the
NFL.com report that has Dallas submitting an official interview request. And what does
Moore think coming into the session? He’s got a 1-word take, relayed to Chase Daniel,
the former NFL QB-turned-media guy. “Excited,” is that take. “I spent a lot of time there,
eight years there. So [I] have plenty of relationships in that place,” Moore said earlier this
week when asked to speak out about the Cowboys. “I love it here. I’ve had so much fun here.
It’s been a really fun process, and we’re in a really special situation right now, getting the
chance to play this Sunday, having a chance to make a run at this thing, and that’s really all you worry about.”
Moore has remained steadfast in focus on helping the Eagles reach the Super Bowl for the second
time in three seasons. While their passing offense has struggled at times this season, their rushing
attack has more than made up for it. And it’s that very rushing attack with a 2,000-yard runner in
Saquon Barkley that has helped increase Moore’s chances of receiving a coaching job now that
Dallas is looking for an opening. Dallas has set up visits with Robert Saleh and Leslie Frazier.
But Kellen – who checks so many Cowboys boxes – seems a pinpointed fit. There are other
Dallas interviews coming and there are other Kellen interviews scheduled, too, as he tries to crowd
in talks with the Jaguars and the Saints before his Eagles playoff game vs. the Rams this weekend.
And there’s something else that must be done: Moore was elbowed out of here two seasons ago
by the now-gone Mike McCarthy. So if Jerry Jones wants Moore, who we are told is very
much among the front-runners? Jerry might have to take a minute to put on his salesman
hat. … something he is inarguably skilled at.
