Report: Bayern Munich opening up to possibility of release clause for Jamal Musiala
Bayern Munich is reportedly reconsidering its traditional stance against release clauses by potentially incorporating one into Jamal Musiala’s new contract. According to Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl, the proposed clause would be activated two years before the contract’s end, initially set at approximately €175 million and decreasing to around €100 million one year prior to expiration.
This development marks a significant shift for Bayern, as the club has historically avoided including release clauses in player contracts to maintain control over potential transfers. The negotiations with Musiala, whose current contract runs until 2026, have been described as challenging, with the release clause being a central point of discussion.
Despite these complexities, Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, has expressed optimism about reaching an agreement, highlighting ongoing positive discussions with Musiala and his representatives. The club aims to finalize the contract extension soon, potentially by early February, to secure the future of the 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who has been instrumental in the team’s success.
In addition to the release clause, the new contract is expected to offer Musiala a salary comparable to that of striker Harry Kane, around €24 million gross per year, reflecting his value to the team.
The inclusion of a release clause could also serve as a strategic move to deter interest from other European giants, such as Manchester City and Real Madrid, who have been linked with Musiala in recent transfer speculations.
