Chris Wilder has confirmed that Sheffield United has made a bid for Tom Cannon, amid a transfer battle with Sunderland.
Chris Wilder has confirmed that Sheffield United has placed a bid for Leicester City’s Tom Cannon, with the club competing against Sunderland for the 22-year-old forward. Cannon was recalled from his loan at Stoke City earlier this month, sparking interest from various clubs. Sheffield United had identified him as a target in the summer before his loan move, and he scored nine goals during his time at Stoke. Other clubs, including Burnley and Everton, have also been linked with the player.
Wilder, speaking before the Championship match against Norwich City, revealed, “There’s a bid in, and other clubs are interested. We’re in the race for Tom, and there’s a lot of things that need to happen. We’re also looking at a couple of other players, and we have contingency plans in place. The owners are backing our recruitment team, and we’re aiming to make permanent signings that can contribute for the rest of the season. If not, we’ll move on to other reasonable, value-for-money targets. The owners are supporting our efforts, and that’s a positive sign.”
