‘I have to be honest, I expected more’ – Juric’s verdict on his substitutions at Man Utd
When asked about his changes in the 3-1 loss at Manchester United, SAINTS manager Ivan Juric
said that he “expected more” from his substitutes.
At Old Trafford, the St Mary’s team had the lead until the 82nd minute after an own goal from
Manuel Ugarte shortly before halftime.
Man United overcame a deficit to defeat Premier League basement team Saints in a thrilling conclusion that saw Amad Diallo score a hat-trick in the final 12 minutes.
The Saints were still ahead when Juric made three of his five substitutes, and he made his final
two just after the equaliser.
Christian Eriksen, a substitute for Man United, put up the game-winning goal in extra time, but
none had the effect the Croatian wanted.
“I must admit that when they arrived, I had somewhat higher expectations for each one. “They need
to give us more vigour and intensity,” Juric remarked.
“We played a great game as a team for 70 to 75 minutes; everything was nearly ideal, but we needed
to score more goals.
“But there is a moment you have to be a little bit more evil, I can say, manage the game differently
and we didn’t do that,” Juric said.
“We managed the game terribly. You can’t play at the same level for ninety-five minutes. Sometimes you have to handle things in a different way.
“You must win the autumn and the throw-ins. I didn’t enjoy it when we lost a few balls in the centre. We play like this and lose, which is really unfortunate.
