Leicester City defeated Ipswich in the hunt to sign Coventry City’s star for £15 million.

Jamie Vardy, David Nugent, and Chris Wood scored to help Leicester City defeat Ipswich Town 3-0 at the King Power Stadium in the Championship.

The home side started strongly and had a chance to grab the lead in the fourth minute when Danny Drinkwater hoisted a corner into the box for Wes Morgan to slam a header at goal, but Dean Gerken saved it.

Ipswich responded to the early pressure when Matty James lost possession on the edge of his own box, allowing Cole Skuse to nip in but shoot wide.

Leicester took the lead when Vardy pounced on Jay Tabb’s blunder, as his backpass dropped short of Gerken, and the striker sprinted onto the ball, around the keeper, and tapped home.

The Foxes extended their lead in the 31st minute when Ritchie De Laet raided down the left and was fortunate to have his cross knocked back to him; on the second effort, he found Nugent, who scored.

After the half, Ipswich attempted to retaliate with Stephen Hunt lifting a free kick into the area and Christophe Berra meeting the cross with a powerful header that sailed just over the bar.
