Sam Lammers could join Twente Enschede for £2.5 million this summer after they failed to sign him last year, when he moved to Rangers.

The Dutch flop is on loan at Utrecht and has helped them to a club-record 14-match unbeaten streak,

which included a weekend victory over third-place Twente.

Twente is five points clear in third, far ahead of Utrecht in ninth,

and appears to be on track to qualify for the Champions League next season.

According to sources from the Netherlands, they will try to land Lammers again this summer.

Twente were interested in him while he was at Atalanta, but he chose to join Rangers instead,

a £3.5 million move that turned out to be a fiasco.

The loan move to Utrecht does not involve a buy option,

and Twente is in a much stronger financial position than Utrecht to sign the 26-year-old.

Kees Luijckx, a former NAC Breda player turned Dutch TV analyst, lauded Lammers’ performance against Twente over the weekend.

He stated, “Sam Lammers is extremely vital to the squad. Not only for his goals, but also for Utrecht’s preferred playing style.

“Lammers is simply a fantastic asset for Utrecht.”

Meanwhile, Michael Beale has been informed that not all coaches are cut out to be managers.

It comes less than 24 hours after the 43-year-old was fired by Sunderland.

The Londoner was only in charge of the Championship club for 12 games after being appointed by the Black Cats in mid-December.

It’s his second job loss this season, after been fired by the Rangers earlier.

He endured a difficult start to the season,

which saw the Ibrox club fall seven points behind Celtic in the Premiership and be eliminated from the Champions League before reaching the group stages.
