Rangers Predicted XI: Philippe Clement’s Possible Line-Up – No Yilmaz, ‘Barron 2.0’ Signed
Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen may look to the transfer market this month to address various issues at Rangers.
Rangers Face January Transfer Decisions as Clement Looks to Reshape the Squad
Rangers are currently 16 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, but with Europa League football ongoing at Ibrox, January signings could play a crucial role before the transfer window closes on February 3.
Philippe Clement has been dealing with a slew of injuries, and while it doesn’t fully excuse recent poor performances, some fans sympathize with the challenges he faces. Here’s how Rangers might look once the winter transfer window concludes:
Defensive Reinforcements
Jack Butland is set to return to the starting XI after being sidelined since December with internal bleeding in his legs. Rangers’ recent defensive struggles—exacerbated by injuries to key players like James Tavernier, John Souttar, Dujon Sterling, Leon Balogun, and Neraysho Kasanwirjo—have left Clement with limited options.
Robin Propper has been stepping up, but help could arrive with Rangers reportedly targeting Cavalier FC center-back Richard King. Meanwhile, Marseille’s Bamo Meite is being eyed to replace Ridvan Yilmaz, who is expected to leave this window for up to £4.9 million.
Midfield Additions
Clement’s midfield options are already extensive, but Dundee’s Lyall Cameron could join this month instead of signing a pre-contract deal. The 22-year-old would follow a path similar to Connor Barron’s move from Aberdeen, earning him comparisons as a “Barron 2.0.”
Attack Set for Stability
With Nico Raskin assuming captain duties and no urgent need for changes in midfield, Rangers’ attacking quartet of Ianis Hagi, Nedim Bajrami, Vaclav Cerny, and Hamza Igamane is expected to lead the charge for the rest of the season.
