Director of offensive scouting Rick Stockstill,

a former quarterback for Florida State and longtime head coach at Middle Tennessee State,

is joining the FSU football program.

This change was anticipated, as Noles247 revealed earlier in the week,

and FSU officially announced it on Monday night.

In a press release, Mike Norvell stated, “I am fired up to add Rick Stockstill to our coaching staff.”

“He will be essential to our staff preparation since he brings a wealth of football knowledge and expertise to this post.

As he continues to guide our program’s ascent, Rick’s insights as a former player here under Coach Bowden and as a head coach for almost two decades will be invaluable. Rick obviously loves Florida State,

so I’m glad we got the chance to welcome him back to the Nole Family.

In addition to going 113-111 in his 18 seasons as head coach,

Stockstill joined MTSU in 2006 and remained there until the current season.

A conference mark of 82–58 is included in this. In 2022,

his Blue Raiders upset Miami 45–31; at the time, the former FSU student was extremely proud of his team’s performance.

Following the victory, Stockstill remarked, “They averaged 1.6 yards per carry,

they gave us $1.5 million, but they got 1.6 yards per carry.”

During his tenure at MTSU, Stockstill won six coaching awards and was well-known for developing passing-heavy systems.

During the program’s rise to national prominence,

he played for FSU from 1977 to 1981, helping the seminoles win many games against teams ranked in the top ten.

Stockstill expressed his gratitude and humility at the chance to work with Coach Norvell and his team.

“I, along with many other former players,

have found great satisfaction in seeing him develop this program and getting to know him personally.

I’m thrilled to be returning to Florida State University,

a place that holds great personal and professional significance for me.

My time there was essential in my personal and professional growth.

Being a member of a successful team and adding to the cycle of influencing others excites me.

three conference players of the year, and six NFL Draft selections, including current Philadelphia Eagles safety Kevin Byard, a two-time first-team All-Pro. Additionally,

Stockstill managed the growth of MTSU’s passing yardage record holders over their careers.

interceptions, sacks, interceptions, and tackles. His program achieved a 95 percent graduation success rate in each of the four years it was in operation, placing it in the top five nationwide from 2019 to 22.
