Rangers to bank big money on £22,000 per week star signed by Michael Beale
Jonny McFarlane believes Dujon Sterling can bring the Rangers a lot of money if he is properly developed before being sold.
The Rangers Review journalist reacted on Twitter on February 18 after the former Chelsea player impressed off the bench in the Light Blues’ 3-0 victory over St Johnstone, which sent them to the top of the SPFL.
The 24-year-old was brought in as full-back insurance in the summer,
but he has performed better as a midfielder since being called up for the Viaplay Cup final due to Jose Cifuentes’ suspension.
McFarlane said after Sterling’s 45-minute performance over the weekend: “What a player Dujon Sterling is.
Versatile across multiple roles. Supreme attitude. Powerful and athletic. Will make Rangers wealthy if properly developed.”
Rangers to invest heavily on Michael Beale’s teammate Dujon Sterling?
Sterling has been a slow burner at Ibrox, but he is looking increasingly like one of the success stories of Micheal Beale’s summer overhaul,
after fast fading into oblivion early in the season.
The fact that the former Ibrox manager, who was sacked for the second time this season by Sunderland,
had to leave the club for the free transfer newcomer to have his chance speaks volumes about Beale rather than Sterling.
Philippe Clement has given him several starts in midfield, including the Old Firm derby,
with the majority of his 21 Rangers games coming since the Belgian came over.
The player trading model at Ibrox is improving, but it still lags behind Celtic’s normal profits,
but if everything goes as planned from here, Sterling might help change that.
So, if the club can squeeze another couple of seasons out of him while he continues to progress on his current path,
a reasonable transfer fee to move on, possibly back to England, would be a clear success for all parties.
