Mohamed Diomande opened the scoring for the visitors, his first goal as a Gers player.

James Tavernier then scored two second-half penalties to seal the victory for Philippe Clement’s team.

The following are the player ratings for the game:

Jack Butland – 7.

According to Sofascore, he did not need to make a single save while maintaining a clean sheet. The only action was a large claim, but it does not mean he did not marshal his argument effectively. Whenever he had the ball in possession, he demonstrated composure one would want from a modern-day goalkeeper with a pass accuracy north of 90 per cent.

The Rangers captain demonstrates no nervousness from the spot

James Tavernier – 7

He showed no nervousness in the second half, scoring a penalty that put the visitors ahead by two goals. It was a penalty, and the Englishman hit the ball hard into the back of the net. Aside from that, he had a pretty unproductive game, failing to connect with his crosses and making some errant passes. With his second penalty, he went to the opposite side and scored his 120th goal for the team.

Connor Goldson – 7

As a result of his excellent defensive play, the goalie had no saves to make. He won ten of his thirteen attempted aerial duels and made five crucial clearances. Made John Souttar appear better and was constantly there, both in and out of possession.

John Souttar – 7

Won eight of his duels, six of them were in the air. He let nothing get by him, and while Goldson improved his appearance, he also provided much-needed balance to the defence. It’s safe to say that he’s earned his place in the first-choice centre-back duo.

Borna Barisic – 5

Some of his passes were incorrect, and he did not win a single aerial battle throughout the game. He even lost possession 11 times and had a long pass accuracy of less than 20%. Ridvan Yilmaz became sharper after coming on and deserved to be the first choice.

John Lundstram – 5

The Rangers played a quiet game in the middle of the park. Made some dubious decisions in the first half, but improved in the second. However, relinquishing possession 12 times is hardly impressive, and a stronger team would have punished them for it.

Mohamed Diomande – 8

It was a fantastic way to start his career with his new team, and he struck the ball so well from outside the box that it whistled into the back of the net. The Ivorian won all six of his attempted ground duels, and his pass accuracy was approximately 80%. Diomand even won four tackles, indicating an all-round performance from the center midfielder.

Scott Wright – 4

Played for the first 45 minutes and had little influence on the right wing. He completed only eight passes in the half and lost 75% of his attempted aerial duels. He did not finish a single cross in the game, and Dujon Sterling was surely better in that role.

Todd Cantwell – 8.

Whenever the ball was in the middle or final thirds, Cantwell appeared to be the one finding space to receive a pass or trying to make things happen himself. Unfortunately, he was unable to finish the game, and there is also a suspicion of a hamstring injury, which the club hopes is not serious.

Oscar Cortes is still adjusting to life at Rangers.

Oscar Cortes – 3

The Colombia international had a terrible game for the Rangers, indicating that he is new to the league and would need more time to adapt. He was second best in most of his duels and failed to engage or occupy positions to become  a serious goal threat. He even failed to complete any of his three attempted dribbles and had a zero per cent accuracy with his crosses.

Rangers

Fabio Silva – 3

Surprisingly, he started ahead of Cyriel Dessers, which is not a decision Clement would be proud about. Throughout his time on the pitch, the Portuguese made only five passes and struggled to get involved in the action. A passing accuracy of 50% is awful, and he is aware of this. In 69 minutes on the field, he only attempted one shot on goal. Disappointing show.

Substitutes

Dujon Sterling – 6

Tom Lawrence – 5

Ross McCausland – 5

Cyriel Dessers – 4

Ridvan Yilmaz – 5
