The Philadelphia Eagles are entering a season with a lot of pressure, given how the end of 2023 turned out.

The Eagles, led by general manager Howie Roseman, have never been afraid to spend big to fix huge holes on the team,

and this offseason could be no exception.

After watching the secondary deteriorate dramatically in the second half of the 2023 season,

including a postseason loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers marred by poor secondary tackling,

it wouldn’t be surprising if Roseman took some drastic measures to overhaul Philadelphia’s cornerback room.

Roseman is nothing if not aggressive, both throughout the season and while retooling the roster during the winter.

In recent years, the Philadelphia Eagles have added star wide receiver A.J. Brown in a draft weekend trade with the Tennessee Titans,

dropped veteran cornerbacks James Bradberry and Darius Slay into the secondary,

traded draft picks for running back D’Andre Swift, and signed veterans such as Ndamukong Suh, Julio Jones,

and others, to name a few of Roseman’s bold moves over the last several seasons.

As free agency approaches, the Eagles are expected to have little more than $19.92 million in salary space, according to OverTheCap.

That’s before cap-saving maneuvers like restructuring high-priced veterans’ contracts or freeing up cap space by cutting

underperforming players like safety Kevin Byard.

Philadelphia Eagles expected to sign Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro L’Jarius Sneed

With an evident need for back-end help and new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in charge,

one NFL analyst believes the Eagles may go to the Super Bowl champs to make a big splash this summer.

One of the Chiefs’ most tough issues is whether they can afford to keep cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

According to Spotrac.com, Sneed is projected to sign a four-year contract worth $65 million this offseason.

As of now, there does not appear to be a clear way for the Kansas City Chiefs to retain superstar defensive lineman Chris Jones and Sneed.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler stated, “Re-signing free agents Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed appears ambitious,

but Kansas City should pick one and proceed from there. Because the whole pass  rush is built around Jones, let’s start there.”

Sneed, who led the Chiefs in interceptions and passes defensed this season, will not struggle in free agency.

If Kansas City prioritizes Jones, NFL expert Matt Bowen believes Sneed would sign with Travis Kelce’s brother’s team,

the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Upgrading the cornerback position is an offseason priority in Philadelphia,” Bowen said in a statement.

“With Sneed, the Eagles land one of the top veteran free agents, who has the coverage skills and ability to produce in Vic Fangio’s system.”

If Sneed is unable to stay in Kansas City,

signing with a fellow Super Bowl contender such as the Philadelphia Eagles appears to be a viable backup plan.

The Kansas City Chiefs have 19 pending unrestricted free agents, and Spotrac.com reports that the team has $22.6 million in salary space.

Even with the expected league-wide cap raise, Chiefs general manager

Brett Veach cannot afford to keep everyone.

The Chiefs’ fourth-round choice in the 2020 NFL Draft has spent his entire career in Kansas City.

While the two-time Super Bowl champion would prefer to stay, Sneed recognizes that this is a business.

At the age of 27, Sneed has the best chance to secure the bag.

This will not be a cheap move for the Eagles, since L’Jarius Sneed has stated openly that he wants to be paid this offseason,

but it feels like the right one.
