“He trained today” – Clement explains what 38-goal striker was doing at Auchenhowie

Philippe Clement strengthened Rangers forward line in the transfer window with the additions of Oscar Cortes and Fabio Silva.

The Gers manager was questioned about whether this would be enough firepower,

but he clearly had a strategy and was confidence in the players on his roster.

With Danilo and Abdallah Sima out for months rather than weeks,

Philippe Clement has received a lift from the news that he has a proven striker who might soon return to play for Rangers.

Philippe Clement hopes for a speedy return of Kemar Roofe.
Kemar Roofe’s current circumstance has a ‘one last dance’ vibe.

Although his chances of signing a new deal are slim, he will want to go on a strong note.

Roofe posted a picture of his new boots on Instagram this week,

raising expectations that the 31-year-old was at least back on the pitch,

and Clement confirmed that he had been training again at Auchenhowie.

“Not yet, as we are taking things step by step with him. Today he trained for the first time, but with the second team.

We want him to come back in a positive way.

“I don’t want to place a time limit on it since that would put pressure on the medical staff and Kemar.

“I want him to be 100 percent fit when he’s with me, and he’s already working with them.

Of certainly, he can be quite valuable this season.

“As Philippe Clement points out, there is no schedule for when we might see him back in the Rangers’ first squad,

but the fact that he is out of the gym and on the field is a good indication.

The gaffer very likely wants to get him to 100%, but does anyone know what Roofe’s 100% is anymore?

After missing so much time due to injury, the 38-goal scorer would not be entirely match fit until the end of the season.Rangers v Livingston - Viaplay Cup

With only 93 appearances in three and a half seasons, it’s not worth waiting or expecting him to be available for a long stretch of games.

And, as harsh as it may sound, we owe Roofe nothing. Given his past before to joining Rangers,

Kemar Roofe is unlikely to regain full fitness; nevertheless,

if he can get into the sort of form required to play 15-20 minutes or even longer, he should be included in match day squads.

The Ross County assault required someone as clinical as Roofe,

and in tight games, he might still play the role that Clement hopes for – especially if goal difference is a concern.
With March approaching, time is not on Roofe’s side.
