Glasgow Rangers are still on track to complete a spectacular treble, and given where the Ibrox side was in September under Michael Beale,

winning the Premiership this season could be one of their greatest feats.

The Gers lost three of their first seven league games under the current Sunderland manager, and he was finally fired,

with Philippe Clement replacing him.

While the football was not pretty, and Beale failed to win a title during his disastrous ten-month tenure,

the Englishman did make a few excellent additions for the team.

Several other teams also passed up the opportunity to sign the brilliant Englishman on loan, and it definitely appeared to be an ambitious move by Beale at the time, but if Palmer had signed, there is no doubt that he would have significantly strengthened the Ibrox first team group.

The teenager went on to make a handful of games for City near the close of the season, and he collected winners medals in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League, showing that it was clearly the best move for him to remain with the club.

Despite appearing to have a good future at City, Palmer was moved to Chelsea last summer, and the move appears to have helped the youngster, particularly because he has received more regular game time.

What happened with Cole Palmer?

The 21-year-old joined Chelsea for a £40 million transfer price at the start of the 2023/24 season, and it appears to have been a wise decision, especially given his start in London.

Palmer, praised as “exceptional” by previous manager Guardiola, appears destined to reach the pinnacle of the game if he maintains his present form – now valued at €100 million (£86 million) by CIES Football Observatory.

So far this season, the Englishman has 12 goals and nine assists for the Blues, and he is impressing after being given regular opportunities in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting lineup.

This is still six behind Palmer’s total, but Cantwell currently ranks fourth among the Ibrox squad in the Premiership for goals and assists (eight),

as well as sixth for shots on target per game (0.8), eighth for big chances created (three),

and seventh for key passes per game (1.6), demonstrating that, while he springs to life during matches,

he can be inconsistent at times, which is something that needs to be worked on.

While missing out on Palmer was a setback for Beale last season,

the Englishman has moved on to better things since joining Chelsea for £40 million last summer,

relishing the demands of being a regular in the starting lineup.

His recent success demonstrated that Rangers had a lock on the youngster who is now thriving in the top level,

and he could have made all the difference as the Gers struggled at the close of the 2022/23 season.

If he continues to succeed under Pochettino, he may soon be plucked from Chelsea,

since he possesses all of the qualities required to shine for much larger clubs. There is no dispute about that.
