Herbert Hainer confident Bayern Munich will go right back
to contending for the Bundesliga title next season
Bayern Munich has had a genuine change in leadership over the last two seasons
, and Bayer Leverkusen eventually ended their run as Bundesliga champions
this past season. After losing to Real Madrid in
the Champions League semifinals,
Bayern’s season-ending sequence of terrible results further damaged
their already damaged reputation. To make matters worse,
they even gave up second place in the Bundesliga table to VfB Stuttgart.
Blushes were spared at the end of the 2022–2023 campaign
when Thomas Tuchel was able to celebrate winning
the Bundesliga with Bayern because Jamal Musiala’s stoppage-time goal in
Borussia Dortmund and Cologne surrendering to Mainz at home.
Although Tuchel is now the first manager in more than ten
years to not win a trophy in a single season with Bayern,
the writing was already on the wall, and Bayern were extremely
fortunate to win the Meisterschale at that time.
There is no doubting how excellent Bayer Leverkusen wa
s under Xabi Alonso, even with all of Bayern’s failures
over the previous two seasons. After winning the domestic double,
hey finished the Bundesliga with an astonishingly remarkable ninety points.
It will be challenging for Die Werkself to reach the same heights for
the upcoming season, even if it is undoubtedly possible with Alonso leading the team.
Herbert Hainer, the president of Bayern, believes that Bayern should be
the favorites to win it again after a year without doing so.
“We were troubled by last season. We did not perform with consistency.
We must put effort into that. The competition is very fierce
Leipzig and Dortmund are constantly in the running,
Leverkusen can build on a fantastic season, and so on.
When asked if Bayern are favorites to win the 2024–25 Bundesliga season,
Hainer responded, “But FC Bayern are
always playing for titles, that’s in their genes” (via @iMiaSanMia).
At FC Bayern, a new era has begun with the arrival of Vincent Kompany
and a freshly constructed coaching staff.
The club has already signed
Hiroki Ito from VfB Stuttgart and is close to signing
Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, but there is still plenty
that might happen in the summer transfer window.
Although Bayern is still trying to add a few important
players, a few players may end up departing before
the transfer season ends at the end of August.
Nevertheless, Kompany will undoubtedly aim to return Bayern to
the top of the German football hierarchy.
