Newcastle United has strengthened its academy this week, with two young players confirming their arrival.
The Magpies have awarded scholarships to Clevedon Town attacker Kayden Lucas and former Everton
defender Aaron Epia. A new wave of players is likely to arrive after 13 players were released on July 1.
Lucas, often known as ‘Chumpy’, previously trained with Newcastle after scoring four goals in a game watched by scouts.
The 16-year-old scored nine goals in six outings for Clevedon’s under-18 team. “I’m over the moon for Chumpy,”
said Seasider’s manager, Alex White. “He’s pursuing a dream, and this is a very great step toward it.
He’s a humble guy with a fantastic attitude and evident skill, but now the hard work begins for him.
“It’s been a joy to have him as a member of the club and contribute in any tiny way to his trip.
For the club, it’s obviously a fantastic story that highlights the good pipeline and platform we
provide for young players to develop and have their abilities acknowledged and showcased,
but all credit goes to our Under 18 Manager, Lee Archer.”
Archer, a former professional with Bristol Rovers, added: “He’s raw and he’s got lots to work on,
but as a club it’s what you want with a kid at his age.
