EFL Equality Code of Practise : SAFC awarded Bronze
Under the EFL Equality Code of Practice, Sunderland AFC has received a Bronze award.
Numerous pieces of evidence about the Club’s organizational structure, EDI-related rules and processes,
and dedication to EDI promotion within SAFC have led to this award.
In addition, the club established “Pride of Wearside,” an official SAFC supporters’ group created for the LGBTQ+
community in the area and worked with staff from across the club to form our EDI working group.
We also conducted an audit of the Stadium of Light’s disabled access, had staff and supporters
complete equality monitoring surveys and engaged our supporters through our numerous EDI matchday themes.
The club, which was founded in 2024, promotes a friendly atmosphere at the
Stadium of Light where fans may congregate and cheer for their side.

We are honored to have received recognition for this accomplishment,
and we’ll keep working to advance our dedication to EDI promotion by aiming for inclusiveness, diversity,
and equality for all guests and club members.
“Our 72 Clubs represent communities of people from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds,
” stated David McArdle, EFL Director of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. Our work on equality,
diversity, and inclusion is based on the EFL’s Code of Practice, which gives clubs a clear framework
and outlines the precise measures they must take to ensure the
Club is reflective of the community at all levels.
The EFL will keep empowering and supporting all Clubs to have a positive impact on their
communities and the larger game, as the progress that is being made is very encouraging.
The EFL’s Equality Code of Practice was first introduced in 2012 and was redesigned to
become a multi-level accreditation program at the beginning of the 2022–2023 season.
By the end of the 2023–2024 season, 46 of the 72 EFL Clubs have achieved at least Bronze.
