BREAKING: The Brooklyn Nets have agreed in principle on a trade to send F Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks for Bojan Bogdanovic
The Mikal Bridges to the Knicks trade only adds to the pressure.
The 2024 NBA offseason has officially begun with a bang thanks to the New York Knicks.
The Los Angeles Lakers are still considering their choices, but the Knicks have moved swiftly to create a stir that will
undoubtedly affect many NBA teams.
The Knicks have acquired Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets in a blockbuster trade, according to ESPN’s Adrian
Wojnarowski.
The 50-win Knicks will now attempt to snap a 50-season title drought.
Theoretically, the Lakers are not much affected by this move. Though Bridges would have been a great fit with
Anthony Davis, LeBron James, and Austin Reaves, he wasn’t anticipated to be on Los Angeles’ trade radar this
summer.
However, there is a less obvious effect that comes down to this: Rob Pelinka has a different plan in mind for the
Lakers this summer, while James and Davis want them to go star-hunting.
Rekindling that internal discussion is inevitable if we witness the Knicks aggressively pursuing one of their own stars.
Mikal Bridges move might make the Lakers feel pressed for time.
Pelinka allegedly wants to use his summer actions to assemble a more capable and evenly matched group.
The Lakers general manager is trying to accomplish this by building possible transactions with depth rather than star
power.
Trade speculations have connected Los Angeles to an increasing number of well-known players.
This includes Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant, Utah Jazz scorer Collin Sexton, and guards Dejounte
Murray and Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks.
The guards Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland of the Cleveland Cavaliers have also been suggested as possible
targets, but it looks like they aren’t available anymore.
The Lakers need to make a decision since they have a ton of possibilities and superstars who are excited to have
another household name join the team. Saying no to Davis and James has gotten harder in the wake of the Bridges
trade.
Draft picks are a coveted commodity in trade talks, regardless of what the Lakers ultimately decide to do.
Pelinka has three future first-round picks at his disposal.
The Pelinka era of Lakers basketball is rapidly coming to an end with the 2024 NBA Draft.
