Gers could land €5m summer striker boost, he is on fire just now.

Sam Lammers thinks he did not have to leave Rangers during the January transfer window.

The attacker struggled to adjust to life at Ibrox after moving from Serie A club Atalanta last summer.

Michael Beale wanted him to be a part of his Light Blues plans, and the club signed him for a record £5million.

He scored two goals in 31 games before being loaned out to FC Utrecht in his native Netherlands.

In an interview with Voetbal, Lammers admits to being startled by the decision to loan him away.

The 26-year-old stated, “(An Ibrox exit) was unexpected,

following a period of extensive playing time.

” I had signed a four-year contract in Scotland with the aim of living in the same spot for an extended period.

“I did not have to leave either. FC Utrecht declared their interest and took swift action. That had a role in my decision last month.

The decisive action, the positive conversations with Jordy Zuidam (technical director) and Ron Jans (head coach),

the confidence I felt, the club as a whole, my ambition to continue playing full matches every week…

It became a nice package.”Lammers fell out of favour with Philippe Clement,

who has a lot of weaponry at his disposal. During the January transfer window,

he added Fabio Silva and Oscar Cortes to supplement his other outstanding players.

Danilo and Kemar Roofe are now injured, although he can still rely on Cyriel Dessers,

Rabbi Matondo, Scott Wright, and Ross McCausland in the forward positions.

Mohamed Diomande, Tom Lawrence, and Todd Cantwell can all play in advanced positions.

“As the season has gone on, he has not been needed that much,

but the odd save he has to make has been incredible at times,

” Dodds said on BBC Sportsound (8.07pm, 14 February).

“But he has been consistent all season, that’s why he’s getting these clubs interested in him.”
