Breaking News : New Orleans Saints have agreed to trade Alvin Kamara to the Baltimore Ravens in the offseason – NFL analyst
The offseason has officially begun for all 32 clubs, which means that each company will endeavor to devise ways to improve and win the Lombardi. For some teams, like the Baltimore Ravens, this entails going all-in on free agent signings and trades. Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints may seek a long-term rebuild and contemplate trading away some of their aging veterans. These demands may coincide, resulting in an Alvin Kamara trade.
At least, that’s what Alex Kay of Bleacher Report proposes. In his most recent post, the NFL expert advises that the cap-strapped New Orleans Saints deal Alvin Kamara to the Baltimore Ravens as one of five moves that might assist the Chiefs avoid a three-peat. In this hypothetical situation, the Ravens will receive Kamara while the Saints get a 2024 seventh-round pick.
Blockbuster Alvin Kamara Trade Proposed Between Ravens And Saints
The Ravens were the greatest team throughout the regular season, but they were unable to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs when it counted the most. While the defense stood up their half of the bargain, Baltimore’s offense scored only 10 points in the AFC Championship Game. Alvin Kamara isn’t the same performer he once was, but a trade would significantly help the Ravens’ running back situation.
Last year, J.K. Dobbins was the team’s starting running back. However, the former second-round pick suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1, putting him on injured reserve. Gus Edwards took over from there, and while he performed an average job, he isn’t really talented as a runner.
Both players are free agents, and even if they are re-signed, Dobbins may never regain his previous form. Achilles injuries have historically been a death sentence for running backs, and the Ohio State product has not been the healthiest player in the NFL. The Ravens would most likely trade Alvin Kamara to remedy their backfield difficulties, but would the Saints do the same?
Would the Saints agree to this?
From the outside looking in, the New Orleans Saints should undoubtedly consider rebuilding. The team missed the playoffs last year, is $82 million over the salary cap, and is stuck with Derek Carr for at least another year. Instead of continuing to bank on the future, they should definitely transfer Alvin Kamara and aim to contend in 2025.
Even if that is the best option for the organization’s long-term future, it is unlikely to happen. Dennis Allen is on the hot seat, and he will not survive another disappointing campaign. Even if he had job security, this is not how the Saints conduct business. Perhaps if they had a low-cost alternative on the roster, they’d be willing to trade Alvin Kamara, but they don’t have that right now.
After leading the league in touchdowns in 2022, Jamaal Williams had the worst season of his career in 2023. During his debut year in New Orleans, the veteran averaged just 2.9 yards per run and scored one controversial touchdown. In contrast, third-round pick Kendre Miller concluded his rookie season with only 156 yards on 41 runs.
With no viable alternatives on the roster, it’s difficult to imagine the Saints agreeing to an Alvin Kamara deal. This one is unlikely to happen, even though it would save New Orleans $11.68 million in cap space if designated as a post-June 1st trade.
